The best chance for a lost pet to find its owner is with a registered microchip. Every year, up to 8 million animals find themselves in shelters. Unfortunately, less than 2% of cats and about 15–25% of dogs get their owners back. Having your lost pet microchipped is one approach to improve the likelihood that it will be found.

A tiny chip is inserted under the animal’s skin using a needle, typically between the shoulder blades. The chip contains a special number that a scanner may pick up and use to read it. Your pet can be microchipped in a matter of seconds, approximately the same amount of time as an injection. When getting their pets spayed or neutered, some individuals also decide to microchip them. Because it matters where and how you inject chips, we advise having skilled veterinary professionals implant them.
